During the 1980s and 1990s, he produced and directed a number of films in the Tamil language featuring some of the biggest names in Tamil cinema, while also making several appearances in supporting roles in other films and television shows. In Arani, Lakshmanan started working in a hardware store. Later, he worked as a sub-editor for the journal Vidhi Velli until it was shut down. Later, he joined Jayakanthan’s Thayin Manikodi. Later, he worked for a Singaporean Tamil publication. Following its failure, he made the decision to launch his own magazine, Thirai Kathir, which was a success.
