Chinmayi Sripaada is a versatile Indian artist known for her contributions to the South Indian film industry. She is not only a playback singer but also a voice actor, composer, television presenter, radio jockey, and entrepreneur. Among her entrepreneurial ventures, she serves as the founder and CEO of a translation services company called Blue Elephant. Additionally, she has ventured into skincare with her company, Isle Of Skin, which imports K-beauty products to India. She also operates a medi-spa called Deep Skin Dialogues in Chennai and Hyderabad.
Chinmayi is recognized by various names in the industry, including Chinmayee and Indai Haza, a name given to her by the renowned composer A. R. Rahman for one of his songs. She gained widespread acclaim for her song “Oru Deivam Thantha Poovae” in the National Award-winning film “Kannathil Muthamittal,” directed by Mani Ratnam and composed by A. R. Rahman. Remarkably, she was just 15 years old when she made her singing debut in this film. Furthermore, she began her career as a Dubbing Artist in director Krishna’s “Sillunu Oru Kaadhal,” lending her voice to Bhumika Chawla, a recommendation that came through one of A. R. Rahman’s sound engineers.
Chinmayi also ventured into composing music, starting with a short lullaby titled “Laali,” which she not only composed but also sang. She released it as part of Instagram’s #1MinMusic initiative. Beyond her artistic endeavors, she is a dedicated social activist, actively raising her voice against issues faced by women. She played a significant role in the second wave of the #MeToo movement in India.
In terms of her background, Chinmayi was born in Mumbai, Maharashtra, and Marathi was one of the first languages she spoke as a child. She received formal training in Carnatic classical music from her mother, Padmahasini T, starting at a very young age, around 3-4 years old. Later on, she transitioned to Hindustani classical music. Her talent was recognized early on when she was awarded the CCRT Scholarship for Young Talent for Carnatic Music by the Government of India at the age of 10. She also earned accolades, including a gold medal from All India Radio for Ghazals in 2000 and a Silver medal for Hindustani Classical Music in 2002.
Chinmayi is not only musically gifted but also academically accomplished. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in psychology from the University of Madras. Her talents extend to dance, and she has a special fondness for the Odissi dance form. Remarkably, she is multilingual, fluently speaking Tamil, Telugu, English, Hindi, German, French, and Marathi, with a working knowledge of Spanish, Malayalam, and Punjabi.
