P. L. Narayana

Biography:

P. L. Narayana was a prominent Indian figure known for his work as a dialogue writer, actor and playwright who later transitioned into a film actor. He primarily worked in the Telugu and Tamil film industries and was born as Lakshmi Narayana on September 10, 1935, in Bapatla, India. Before making his mark in cinema, he had a background in playwriting and stage acting.

On the silver screen, Narayana often took on character roles, frequently portraying downtrodden or distressed characters. Additionally, he displayed his comedic talent in collaboration with other Telugu actors like Kota Srinivasa Rao, Suthivelu, and many more.

In 1978, he shared the screen with Kamal Haasan in the Telugu film “Maro Charitra,” directed by K. Balachander. Some of his notable contributions to Telugu cinema include “Kukka” (1980), “Neti Bharatam” (1983), “Mayuri” (1984), and “Repati Pourulu” (1986), for which he received Nandi Awards for Best Supporting Actor.

Narayana’s talents were not limited to acting; he also won the National Film Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in the 1992 film “Yagnam.” Furthermore, he excelled in the field of dialogue writing and was honored with the Best Dialogue Writer Award at the Nandi Awards for his work in the 1986 film “Ardharati Swatantram.”

In the Tamil film industry, his first appearance was in the 1995 movie “Indira,” starring Anu Hasan in the lead role. He also featured in Mani Ratnam’s Tamil political drama film “Iruvar” in 1997. Unfortunately, P. L. Narayana passed away on November 3, 1998, at the age of 63.
