Jolly O Gymkhana

Story:

Prabhu Deva plays a corpse in the 2024 Indian Tamil-language black comedy film Jolly O Gymkhana (literally, “Let’s be jolly together”), which was written and directed by Sakthi Chidambaram. Madonna Sebastian plays the female lead On November 22, 2024, Jolly O Gymkhana was released in theaters. Abhirami, Yogi Babu, Redin Kingsley, Robo Shankar, John Vijay, Sai Dheena, Madhusudhan Rao, and Yashika Aannand have important roles in the movie as well. For Transindia Media & Entertainment Private Limited, Rajendra M. Rajan and Punitha Rajan are the film’s financiers. MC Ganesh Chandra did the cinematography, Ramar did the editing, and Ashwin Vinayagamoorthy created the music.  The Beast (2022) song of the same name served as the inspiration for the title.

At the beginning of the movie, Bhavani goes to the church to ask Father Martin Luther King for forgiveness. Thangasamy runs the Vellaikkaran Biriyani Hotel in Meignanapuram with his daughter Chellamma and granddaughters Bhavani, Shivani, and Yazhini. Since the building of a new bypass road, business at this establishment has suddenly decreased. The family borrows money from Rocket Ravi and uses usury to keep afloat. Tenkasi MLA Adaikalaraj places a sizable order with them for ₹2 lakhs in catering for a large feast. The family cooks the food without getting paid in advance, but when they go to Adaikalaraj to pay, they are humiliated and violently attacked. After being assaulted, Thangasamy is admitted to the hospital and has a costly ₹25 lakh surgery.

Bhavani requests help from their money lender, Rocket Ravi. Attorney Poongundran takes on a case against MLA Adaikalaraj, who is accused of defrauding 28 families by using their signatures to get money for his medical insurance. Reporter Kanniga witnesses Sandhya, a puppetry artist, being killed by Adaikalaraj when she speaks out against the scam. In spite of this, Adaikalaraj avoids being charged with murder and money laundering. As the election draws near, Poongundran snatches ₹10 crore that Adaikalaraj had intended to distribute to voters, opens a joint account with Kanniga at UBC Bank in Kodaikanal, and saves Sandhya’s family, relocating them to his house. Furious, Adaikalaraj employs Pottu Bhavani, a hired killer, to murder Poongundran.

In a difficult situation, the four women successfully leave the hotel by disguising Poongundran’s body as an inebriated person after leaving their fingerprints in the room and providing their contact information at the hotel desk. They carry the body to a public event and leave it there with the help of Bhavani’s uncle, Murugesan “Mappumama,” not realizing that Mappumama is not aware of Poongundran’s passing. A riot breaks out at the event, and Inspector Idithangi attacks Poongundran’s dead body while trying to disperse the mob.

In the face of intense public uproar, the inspector is suspended after the episode becomes viral. In addition, the Chief Minister removes Adaikalaraj from his role as Health Minister and appoints Omapudi Narayanan in his place, keeping in mind the party’s image. Unaware of Poongundran’s whereabouts, Mappumama gives the body back to Bhavani’s relatives. They first want to push the body off a cliff in order to get rid of it. But Poongudran had a change of heart after receiving a call from Kesavan Kutty asking him to take the ₹10 crore out of his account.

Shivani, a robotics engineer, creates an artificial limb, which the family uses to manage the body. While Yazhini practices forging Poongundran’s signature, Bhavani gives a vocal dub. The family successfully carries Poongundran’s body to Kodaikanal by bus and car after overcoming many obstacles, like as encounters with Inspector Idithangi and Pottu Bhavani, a Telugu-speaking thug. When they arrive, they run into Kesavan Kutty, the bank manager, who demands that Kanniga sign the document because it is a jointly held account. After finding Bhavani, Kanniga, who has already reached Kodaikanal, confronts her and exposes the ₹10 crore. After having second thoughts, Kanniga and Bhavani work together to take the money out.

Adaikalaraj, Pottu Bhavani, Inspector Idithangi, and their associates are after them. The four ladies use Poongundran’s corpse to create a distraction, giving the impression that the dead body is fending off the assailants, trapping the group within Poongundran’s mansion. When Kesavan Kutty sees the mayhem, he thinks Adaikalaraj has slain Poongundran. Kesavan Kutty consents to withdraw the money from Poongundran’s account after being persuaded of this. After the body is buried properly, Poongundran’s final request is granted, which brings comfort to the family. As the movie comes to a close, Bhavani begs the church father’s pardon for using Poongundran’s body for their own gain.
