Indian filmmaker and screenwriter Sakthi N. Chidambaram (born Dinakar) is a Tamil film director. C. Dhinakaran is his true name. Kottai Vaasal (1992), Veettai Paaru Naattai Paaru (1994), Uzhiyan (1994), and Pathavi Pramanam (1994) were the first movies for which he penned dialogue. Samrat, a 1997 remake of the Hindi film Baazigar starring Ramki, marked Chidambaram’s directorial debut. Mansoor Ali Khan played the lead in his 1998 film, Vettu Onnu Thundu Rendu, which he directed. Both movies were a failure.
After a break, he renamed himself and co-directed Sathyaraj’s Ennamma Kannu (2000). The movie did well and had mixed reviews. The film’s popularity led the director and actor to go back together and add Mr. Narathar to the cast, along with Abbas, Mumtaj, and Divyaa Unni. The project was shelved and hasn’t been released even though the filming was almost finished. The popularity of his subsequent directing endeavor, Charlie Chaplin (2002), prompted other multilingual remakes. Being the first to be recreated in six Indian languages, including Bollywood, he set a record in Tamil film. His other films, Kadhal Kirukkan (2003) and Inidhu Inidhu Kadhal Inidhu (2003), were box office busts.
He and Sathyaraj worked together once more in 2004 on the political and cinematic satire Maha Nadigan. Because it made fun of Tamil politicians and actors, the movie was controversial before it came out. He consented to work with Sathyaraj once more in late 2004 on a project called Saddam Hussein, but it never got off the ground. He briefly collaborated with Sibiraj, Vikranth, and Chaya Singh on the 2005 film Pattasu, but the project never got finished.
Sakthi once more directed Sathyaraj in the popular films Kovai Brothers (2006) and Englishkaran (2005). Kovai Brothers (2006), Viyabari (2007), Sandai (2008), Rajadhi Raja (2009), and Guru Sishyan (2010) are the five screenplays that Sakthi has produced. Tamil Nadu rights were purchased by Sakthi for the 2011 film Kaavalan.
As soon as Sakthi Chidambaram started filming Machan in 2012, there was conjecture that Namitha, who has starred in a number of the director’s earlier productions and is strongly connected to the title, might play a significant role in the movie. Later, it was revealed that Siva Karthikeyan and Dhansika will co-star in the movie. However, Ramesh Aravind and comedians Vivek and Karunas eventually took their places. The movie did not have a theatrical release, even though a trailer and music were released.
