“Dorasani,” is a poignant 2019 Telugu romantic drama directed by KVR Mahendra, featuring debutants Anand Devarakonda and Shivathmika Rajashekar.
The storyline unfolds as Shankaranna, a former naxalite, is released after thirty years of wrongful imprisonment and seeks information about Raju in a changed village. Meeting Siddadu, a former henchman, the past comes to light.
Transporting viewers to the 1980s, the narrative revolves around Raju, the son of a lower-caste painter, who falls in love with Devaki, the dorasani confined to her lavish bungalow. Despite societal barriers, their love flourishes, yet their joy is short-lived when Devaki’s father, Raja Reddy, discovers their relationship.
As threats escalate, Raju faces violence, and Devaki is forcibly separated from him. The situation intensifies as Raja Reddy falsely implicates Raju as a naxalite, resulting in their arrest. With the help of Shankar, Raju escapes, and the couple plans to elope.
However, their dreams are shattered when Devaki’s brother, initially supportive, betrays their trust. Leading them to a desolate spot, he fatally shoots both Raju and Devaki, extinguishing their budding love story.
In the present, Shankar learns of their tragic fate. Siddadu consoles Shankar, emphasizing that Raju’s triumph lies in the reciprocity of Devaki’s love. Their sacrifice becomes a powerful testament to the depth of their love, leaving an enduring impact on the heart-wrenching narrative of “Dorasani.”
