Sutradhar’s creator, Vinay Varma, began his career as a part-time theatre performer. He has spent more than thirty years working in the theatre. Additionally, he has appeared in over 15 feature films in Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, and one Hollywood production. On September 14, 1980, Dr. D.K. Goel directed the play Coffee House Mein Intezar, which marked the beginning of his theatre career.
Varma quit his well-paying job as a bank officer to follow his love. His philosophy is “one life, one passion”. With more than 200 performances in India and abroad, he has directed more than 30 plays and performed in more than 50 of them. Some of his acting credits include Main Nathuram Godse, Siyaah Haashiye, Stronger Than Superman, Natasamrat, Raktbeej, Main Rahi Masoom, Death Watch, Kanjoos Makkhi Choose, and David Mamet’s Oleanna.
Based on the life and times of author Dr. Rahi Masoom Raza, his play Main Rahi Masoom. Main Rahi Masoom has also been presented outside of Hyderabad at the Kala Ghoda Arts Festival in Mumbai, the 3rd Minerva National Theatre Festival in Kolkata, the Pratyay Theatre Festival in Kolhapur, the 12th Bharath Rang Mahotsav in New Delhi, the 22nd National Drama Festival in Allahabad, the 8th World Theatre Olympics in Chandigarh, and the Film and Television Institute of India in Pune.
Additionally, it was shown in Bengaluru, Chennai, Ahmedabad, Indore, etc. The Society of Friends International, London, also invited Vinay Varma to perform Main Rahi Masoom. At Ravindra Bharathi in Hyderabad, India, Main Rahi Masoom celebrated its 50th performance on March 2, 2018. Varma had provided his voice for a number of commercials, documentaries, corporate films, and educational films in Urdu, English, and Hindi. He provides dubbing for Telugu films.
He provided the dubbing for performers like Ilavarasu, Tinnu Anand, Paresh Rawal, Nassar, and Rahul Dev. Since 1999, Varma has been leading workshops in acting, voice, and body language at Sutradhar, where he has discovered and developed more over a hundred talents. Vijay Varma, Sree Vishnu, Aditi Sharma (Ahana of Kasam Tere Pyaar Ki), Vijay Deverakonda, Anand Deverakonda, and Aberaam Varma are some of the well-known performers he has mentored.
