Maruthi Dasari, commonly known as Maruthi, is a prominent figure in the Telugu cinema industry, where he has made a name for himself as a director, screenwriter, and producer. He is renowned for his work on low-budget films like “Ee Rojullo” and “Bus Stop.” Maruthi is closely associated with Maruthi Talkies, a film production company in the Telugu film industry.
Maruthi was born in Machilipatnam, Andhra Pradesh, and completed his education there. After his graduation, he relocated to Hyderabad. He ventured into the field of animation and became part of the inaugural group of animators at DQ Entertainment International in the city.
His career began as a co-producer for the film “Premisthe: A Film by Aravind.” Subsequently, he entered film distribution and handled the distribution of several movies. He also gained recognition for his work in designing advertisements and promotional materials. His talents came to the attention of Chiranjeevi, who enlisted him to design a flag for the Praja Rajyam Party and create promotional content for the party. Maruthi also contributed a logo for the film “Athadu.”
In 2011, Maruthi was inspired by Ram Gopal Varma’s cost-effective production of “Dongala Mutha,” which utilized a 5D camera. This prompted Maruthi to venture into low-budget filmmaking, and he began developing a script.
In 2012, he made his directorial debut with “Ee Rojullo,” which garnered positive responses from critics and became one of the most successful Telugu films of 2012, despite its modest budget of 50 lakhs.Following this success, Maruthi released his second directorial venture, “Bus Stop,” in November 2012, which also achieved commercial success.
In 2013, Maruthi took on the role of writer and producer for “Prema Katha Chitram,” introducing his cinematographer, J. Prabhakar Reddy, as a director. The film became a surprise hit, grossing 20 crores. Maruthi continued to produce several films under Maruthi Talkies, including “Prema Katha Chitram,” “Romance,” “Mahesh,” “Villa-2,” “Love You Bangaram,” and “Green Signal.”
His subsequent directorial project was “Kotha Janta,” featuring Allu Sirish in the lead role, followed by “Babu Bangaram” with Venkatesh. He also contributed as a writer and screenplay writer for “Bhadram Be Careful Brotheru,” which received critical acclaim.
Maruthi’s collaboration with Nani on “Bhale Bhale Magadivoy” further solidified his reputation, as the film became a super hit, thanks in part to Nani’s outstanding performance.
In 2014, Maruthi announced a project titled “Radha,” starring Venkatesh and Nayantara. However, a writer alleged that Maruthi had plagiarized his story, leading to a legal dispute. Despite Maruthi’s denial of the plagiarism allegations, the film was eventually shelved.
