Jeeva (21 September 1963 – 26 June 2007) was a prominent Indian filmmaker, cinematographer, and director who worked in Tamil, Hindi, and Malayalam-language cinema. He initially began his career as an assistant to renowned cinematographer P. C. Sreeram, contributing to various notable films. Jeeva later established himself as an independent cinematographer in the late 1990s and early 2000s, working on numerous successful projects, including collaborations with directors like Shankar and Priyadarshan.
As a cinematographer, Jeeva was well-regarded for his work, earning accolades for his exceptional contributions. His collaboration with director Shankar on films like “Gentleman,” “Kadhalan,” and “Indian” garnered critical acclaim, with his cinematography in “Kadhalan” earning him the Tamil Nadu State Film Award for Best Cinematographer. Additionally, he worked closely with director Priyadarshan on several occasions.
Jeeva ventured into directing and achieved considerable success with films such as “12B,” “Ullam Ketkumae,” and “Unnale Unnale.” Tragically, he passed away due to acute cardiac arrest in Russia in June 2007 while working on his film “Dhaam Dhoom.” Jeeva’s contributions to Indian cinema, both as a cinematographer and director, left a lasting impact, and he is remembered for his significant achievements in the industry. He was survived by his wife, costume designer Anees Tanveer, and their two children.
