With a career spanning over 30 years, he has made significant contributions to the Indian film and television industries.
Naidu is a member of prestigious organizations like the Indian Society of Cinematographers, the South Indian Cinematographers Association, and the Telugu Cinematographers Association. He has received critical acclaim and numerous accolades for his cinematography, including two state Nandi Awards for Anji and Kotha Bangaru Lokam, as well as two Filmfare Awards South for Kotha Bangaru Lokam and Damarukam.
Born in Ramachandrapuram, East Godavari district, Andhra Pradesh, Naidu comes from a family deeply rooted in the arts. His father, Chitti Babu Naidu, is a writer and director of stage plays, while his mother, Ananthalakshmi, is a homemaker. Naidu’s siblings have also accomplished professionals, with his sister Padma Latha being an electronics engineer, his brother K.V.S. Naidu a mechanical engineer, and his sister Kanaka Durga an electronics engineer. His younger brother, Shyam K. Naidu, is also a renowned cinematographer.
During his formative years, Naidu’s passion for cinema overshadowed his academic pursuits. He failed his 10th standard exams due to his dedication to watching films. Recognizing his love for the medium, his father challenged him to pass his exams and promised him a position in the film industry if he succeeded. Naidu accepted the challenge and successfully cleared his exams, leading to his apprenticeship at Devar Films’ outdoor unit in Chennai in 1979. He later joined Taraka Prabhu outdoor unit under the guidance of Dasari Narayana Rao. Working as a focus puller alongside renowned cinematographers in the 1980s, he drew inspiration from DOP V.S.R. Swamy, whom he considers his role model for his discipline, dedication, and craftsmanship.
Throughout his illustrious career, Chota K. Naidu has left an indelible mark on the Indian film industry, mesmerizing audiences with his distinct visual storytelling techniques and artistic flair.
