TheatreA martial arts movie written and directed by Pawan Kalyan, Johnny was released in 2003 in the Indian Telugu language. The Allu Aravind-produced movie, which included Renu Desai, Raghuvaran, and Raza Murad in significant parts, starring Pawan Kalyan in the lead. In the movie, a martial arts instructor chooses to enter tournaments to win prizes so that he might rescue his wife, who is suffering from blood cancer. On April 25, 2003, Johnny was released to generally unfavorable reviews. Despite appreciation for Pawan Kalyan’s performance, the movie struggled at the box office and ended up being one of the failures in Telugu cinema.It became cult-like. Additionally, it became the first Telugu movie ever to have more than 250 prints distributed abroad, including in the US. The movie was shown at the India International Film Festival.
When Johnny was a little child, his mother died. He flees from his unstable family and drunken father Ravishankar. Years later, Johnny transitions from a part-time club fighter to a mixed martial arts teacher. One day, Geetha, a lady, files a police report accusing Johnny of assaulting a man. She learns afterwards that there was a misunderstanding. Both end up getting married and becoming buddies. After getting married, Johnny learns that his bride has leukemia. He moves to Mumbai to pay for her medical care and discovers that he is in desperate need of money to cover the costs. Tatya, the competition’s organizer, offers Johnny a lump sum payment and a chance to compete against two professional martial artists while he is still taking part in an amateur kickboxing match. When Johnny defeats them, he gets 200,000 overnight, which he uses to pay for Geeta’s medical care.
