TheatreChoodalani Vundi, a 1998 Indian Telugu action drama film, was written and directed by Gunasekhar and produced by C. Aswani Dutt under Vyjayanthi Movies. Starring Chiranjeevi, Soundarya, Anjala Zaveri, and Prakash Raj, the movie features music by Mani Sharma and cinematography by Chota K. Naidu. Released on August 27, 1998, the film was a box office success, emerging as the highest-grossing Telugu film of the year. It was showcased in the Indian Panorama mainstream section at the 30th International Film Festival of India and received recognition with two South Filmfare Awards and three state Nandi Awards. In 2003, the film was remade in Hindi as Calcutta Mail.
Plot
Ramakrishna, portrayed by Chiranjeevi, works as a mechanic in Vijayawada. His life takes a drastic turn when he encounters Priya (Anjala Zaveri) at a train station. Despite the mysterious connection they feel, they decide to run away together to escape from her father Mahendra’s (Prakash Raj) gangsters. They settle in the forest with their son, but Mahendra, an underworld don, intervenes. He kidnaps Priya with the intention of marrying her off to another don’s son. Ramakrishna confronts Mahendra, leading to a struggle where Priya takes the fatal bullet meant for Ramakrishna and loses her life. The shock leaves their son speechless. Ramakrishna, facing corruption within the police orchestrated by Mahendra’s mafia state, ends up in prison.
In a further tragic twist, Mahendra kidnaps the boy and transports him to Kolkata, where the story originally began. Ramakrishna, finding support in Padmavathi (Soundarya), whom he falls in love with, manages to reunite with his son and seeks vengeance by eliminating Mahendra.
