Anupam Kher was born on March 7, 1955, in Shimla, Himachal Pradesh, India.He comes from a Kashmiri Pandit family. His father, Pushkarnath Kher, was a clerk in the Forest Department, and his mother, Dulari Kher, was a housewife.He completed his schooling from D.A.V. School in Shimla and went on to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in Theatre Drama from the National School of Drama (NSD) in New Delhi.Anupam Kher made his acting debut in the film “Aagman” in 1982. However, his breakthrough role came in the critically acclaimed film “Saaransh” (1984), where he portrayed the role of a retired middle-class Maharashtrian man.
He has acted in over 500 films in various languages, including Hindi, English, and several regional languages.Anupam Kher has been recognized for his versatile performances and has received numerous awards and accolades throughout his career. He has won the National Film Award for Best Actor for his role in “Daddy” (1989).Some of his notable films include “Karma” (1986), “Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge” (1995), “Veer-Zaara” (2004), “A Wednesday!” (2008), and “Silver Linings Playbook” (2012), among others.Apart from films, Anupam Kher has also acted in various television shows and web series. He gained widespread popularity for his role as Dr. Vijay Kapoor in the American medical drama series “New Amsterdam.”
He has also ventured into film production and has directed and produced several films, including “Om Jai Jagadish” (2002) and “Ranchi Diaries” (2017).
In addition to his acting career, Anupam Kher is a well-known motivational speaker and has delivered talks and conducted workshops globally. He has authored several books, including his autobiography, “The Best Thing About You Is You!”.
