“Special 26” is a 2013 Indian Hindi-language movie about a team of criminals who pretend to be CBI officers and steal money from politicians and businessmen. The story is based on the real-life 1987 Opera House heist. The film stars Akshay Kumar, Anupam Kher, and Manoj Bajpayee, among others.
Filming started in Delhi in February 2012 and also took place in Chandni Chowk, Mumbai, and near Jama Masjid. The movie’s trailer was released online in December 2012.
“Special 26” hit theaters on February 8, 2013, and received praise from critics. It was considered one of the best films of the year and was a big success at the box office, earning over ₹103 crore.
In 2018, the movie was remade in Tamil as “Thaanaa Serndha Koottam,” starring Suriya in Akshay Kumar’s role.
