“Nagavalli,” a 2010 Telugu-language comedy horror film, was scripted and directed by P. Vasu and produced by Bellamkonda Suresh through Sri Sai Ganesh Productions. The movie features Venkatesh, Anushka Shetty, and Richa Gangopadhyay in the primary roles and features music by Gurukiran. This film is a remake of the director’s own 2010 Kannada movie “Aptharakshaka” and acts as a spin-off of the 2005 Tamil film “Chandramukhi.”
An ancient painting of Chandramukhi, also known as Nagavalli, is given as a prize to Bharatanatyam dancer Gayathri and her family in Tirupathi, including her husband, parents, and sisters. After some years, Gayathri and her husband mysteriously die, and strange incidents begin to occur in the family.
Their troubles seem connected to the painting, and they seek help from Acharya Ramchandra Siddhanthi and Dr. Vijay, a psychiatrist. It’s revealed that Gayathri is still alive but mentally disturbed, kept hidden to avoid affecting her sisters’ marriage prospects. The family suspects that Gayathri is possessed by Chandramukhi.
Vijay investigates Chandramukhi’s history, uncovering a tale of love, betrayal, and revenge from 125 years ago. Meanwhile, another person is also researching Chandramukhi’s story, possibly the one possessed. Vijay discovers that the cruel king, Nagabhairava, who had killed Chandramukhi and her lover, is still alive and using black magic.
Ultimately, Vijay identifies that Gowri, one of Gayathri’s sisters, is the one affected by Chandramukhi’s spirit due to her deep empathy with their tragic tale. After a fierce battle with Nagabhairava, Chandramukhi takes her revenge, and peace is restored to the family.
