Chandamama Kathalu

Story:

Chandamama Kathalu: Volume 1 is a Telugu-language anthology film from 2014 directed by Praveen Sattaru and produced by Chanakya Bhooneti. The movie consists of eight sub-stories that revolve around the theme of love. These sub-plots intertwine, connecting the lives of the central characters. The film boasts an ensemble cast that includes Kishore, Lakshmi Manchu, Naga Shourya, Aamani, Naresh, Krishnudu, Chaitanya Krishna, Abhijeet, Vennela Kishore, Amitha Rao, and Richa Panai.

Plot

Saaradhi, a widowed writer, urgently needs 5 lakh rupees for his daughter’s chronic illness. To raise the money, he begins writing a novel with seven intertwining storylines inspired by his surroundings. The characters include Lisa Smith, a supermodel facing financial struggles; Venkateshwara Rao, a bachelor obsessed with marriage; Soumya Bollapragada, appearing briefly as a girl interested in Krishnudu; Ashraf, a shop owner in the old city eager to marry Haseena; Raghu, a student who deceives Renu, a politician’s daughter; a beggar aspiring to buy a house; Saritha, a widow reuniting with her college friend Mohan, an NRI divorcee; and Raju, a rural youth pursuing Gauri.

Haseena accepts a marriage proposal from a wealthy man in Dubai, betraying Ashraf and leaving for Dubai only to discover her husband is older and works as a taxi driver. Raghu’s plan to elope with Renu is thwarted when her father intervenes and allegedly has him killed. Raju is compelled to marry Gauri after sneaking into her house, and he later cares for their daughter when Gauri dies during childbirth. Saritha and Mohan, finally able to marry, embark on a road trip together. Krishneshwar Rao, a beggar, saves 10 lakh rupees for a house but dies before purchasing it. Lisa and Venkateshwara Rao, both troubled, find solace in each other and eventually marry.

Saaradhi completes his novel but finds the publisher out of town. He discovers Krishneshwara Rao’s bag containing the required 5 lakh rupees, which he uses to cure his daughter’s illness. He gives the remaining amount to Gauri’s husband for their daughter’s welfare.
