Story:

“Veera Simha Reddy” is a 2023 Indian Telugu-language action drama film written and directed by Gopichand Malineni and produced by Mythri Movie Makers. The movie features Nandamuri Balakrishna in a dual role, with Honey Rose as the main female lead, and Shruti Haasan, Varalaxmi Sarathkumar, and Duniya Vijay in supporting roles. The film’s score and soundtrack were composed by S. Thaman.

“Veera Simha Reddy” was released on January 12, 2023, coinciding with the Sankranthi weekend. The film received mixed to positive reviews from critics and achieved moderate success at the box office, grossing ₹134 crore worldwide.

Plot

In Istanbul, Meenakshi runs a restaurant serving Rayalaseema Cuisine and lives with her son Jai Simha Reddy, who owns a car dealership. Jai gets into a scuffle at his dealership and meets Isha, a tone-deaf aspiring singer, whom he falls in love with. Jai and Meenakshi visit Isha’s home for a marriage proposal, where they meet her father Jayaram, a wealthy tycoon. During the meeting, Meenakshi reveals that Jai’s father is Veera Simha Reddy, a leader in Pulicherla, Andhra Pradesh.

Veera Simha Reddy is known for working to end the area’s factionalism. He is in conflict with the faction leader Pratap Reddy, who wants to assassinate him. Despite numerous attempts, Pratap Reddy fails to eliminate Veera Simha Reddy, which angers his wife Bhanumati, who seeks revenge. Pratap Reddy plans to demolish a factory owned by industrialist Raj Gopal, which was built 30 years ago by Veera Simha Reddy to provide employment. He conspires with his uncle Peddi Reddy, a minister, to carry out this plan. They plan to meet at a location for the foundation stone laying ceremony of a new factory, which will be attended by several politicians.

Raj Gopal seeks Veera Simha Reddy’s help, and he courageously confronts them, thwarting their plan single-handedly. Later, Veera Simha Reddy receives an invitation from Meenakshi to visit Turkey. Upon arrival, Veera Simha Reddy reunites with Jai, unaware that he is his son. He expresses gratitude to Meenakshi for respecting his decision to leave them years ago. They meet Jayaram, who approves of Jai and Isha’s union. After they leave, Jayaram becomes worried because he is the investor in the factory that Veera Simha Reddy had blocked earlier. He quickly informs Pratap Reddy about Veera Simha Reddy’s presence in Turkey.

After a long fight, Bhanumati arrives with Pratap Reddy and deceives Veera Simha Reddy, leading to his demise. It is revealed that Bhanumati is Veera Simha Reddy’s sister.

Jai tries to save Veera Simha Reddy, but he refuses, saying he can die for Bhanumathi. Before passing away, Veera Simha Reddy instructs Jai to perform his last rites in their homeland. Following this, Jai learns about Bhanumati’s animosity towards her brother from Siddhappa, Veera Simha Reddy’s trusted aide. Bhanumati was Veera Simha Reddy’s father’s illegitimate child, but he cared for her deeply. Meenakshi, Veera Simha Reddy’s cousin, was engaged to him since childhood, but they consummated their relationship before Bhanumati’s marriage.

Their neighboring village, Musali Madugu, was under the control of Gangi Reddy, Pratap Reddy’s father. When a child from Musali sought Veera Simha Reddy’s help to free them from Gangi’s oppression, Veera Simha Reddy confronted Gangi Reddy, resulting in a fight that ended with Veera Simha Reddy killing Gangi Reddy. During this time, Bhanumati fell in love with Siddhappa’s son Shekar, and Veera Simha Reddy approved of their relationship and arranged their engagement.

Out of anger, Pratap Reddy instigated Shekar, who, while drunk, accidentally shot and killed a villager named Suri. Veera Simha Reddy punished Shekar, who later committed suicide. Devastated, Bhanumati vowed revenge and married Pratap Reddy, instructing him not to touch her until Veera Simha Reddy’s death. Veera Simha Reddy spared Pratap Reddy’s life for Bhanumati’s sake and decided to renounce all comforts as punishment for Shekar’s death, asking Meenakshi to leave him, which she reluctantly did, concealing her pregnancy.

In the present, Jai challenges Pratap Reddy to face him without using Bhanumati’s background. Enraged, Pratap Reddy strikes Bhanumati, revealing that he manipulated her into seeking revenge. He confesses to killing Shekar and staging it as a suicide. Distraught, Bhanumati apologizes to Jai and then takes her own life. During her cremation, Pratap Reddy attacks Jai but is ultimately defeated. Jai then combines Bhanumati’s ashes with Veera Simha Reddy’s grave and continues his father’s legacy.
