Story:

Sekhar Kammula is the writer and director of the 2006 Telugu-language romantic comedy drama film Godavari, which was produced by G. V. G. Raju. The main actors were Kamalinee Mukherjee and Sumanth. The movie was universally praised by critics and was also a financial triumph at the box office. Numerous Nandi and Filmfare awards were won by it.

K. M. Radha Krishnan wrote the film’s soundtrack. The names of the main characters and the cruise ship on the Godavari River are similar. Jheel Se Gehra Pyar was the Hindi title given to this movie later on. Although it did well in the US, the movie did not perform as well as expected in India. Some critics regard Godavari as a modern-day classic.

Plot
The movie Godavari is about Sreeram, Seetha, and the river trip that unites them—from Rajahmundry to Bhadrachalam. It is a romantic drama taking place on a cruise ship known as the “Godavari” and set against the picturesque scenery of the Godavari River.

Sreeram, also known as Ram (Sumanth), is an American engineering graduate with a master’s degree. His goal upon his return to India is to become a politician and help the people there. He aspires to marry his cousin Raaji (Neetu Chandra) since he is in love with her.

However, Ram’s poor socioeconomic standing and idealistic personality are trivialized by Raaji’s father, who opposes Raaji’s marriage to him. Fashion designer Seetha (Kamalinee Mukherjee) owns a failing boutique for fashionable clothes. Her parents, who don’t really support her business, would rather that she get married.

Seetha, a self-reliant lady focused on her job, is not thrilled with their proposal. She is compelled by circumstances to grudgingly concur with her parents, nevertheless. Nevertheless, the marriage fails because the groom’s family believes the wife is “too progressive and fast.” Seetha, fuming, decides to take a vacation from it all and go on a river cruise on the Godavari.

Raaji receives a marriage proposal in the meantime from her father-approved self-centered IPS officer Ravi (Kamal Kamaraju). Raaji admits to Ram that she’s not sure if she feels the same way for him. Ram resolves to win her hand and show her father how valuable he is. But he quickly finds out that she has consented to wed Ravi.

Heartbroken and disappointed, Ram must go with his family to Bhadrachalam, the destination of Raaji’s wedding, on the same Godavari river trip. Ram and Seetha first cross paths on this boat ride. Numerous subplots involving other persons on the riverboat are also present.

For example, Chinna, a poor child who makes a living by selling balloons, gets his balloons clipped by a man in a red shirt and boards the riverboat to get paid for the balloons he lost. Simultaneously, a dog named Kotigadu, who is continuously bothered by other dogs, makes the decision to move from Rajamundry to Bhadrachalam in the hopes of finding a better home.

After saving him, Kotigadu regards Chinna as his master, and Chinna later befriends Ram and confides in him about his problems. Seeta tentatively steps up the ramp leading to the boat, where she encounters Ram for the first time. Ram abruptly snatches her up after spotting her struggles and carries her onto the boat in his arms.

Though Seeta angrily demands an explanation from Ram for touching her without her consent, Ram feels he done her a favor. The laid-back Ram apologizes and gets over it. Following a string of miscommunications, Ram and Seeta properly introduce themselves and become friends.

Seeta begins journaling her travel experiences, particularly her time spent with Ram, in her diary. She makes numerous attempts to court Ram romantically. They both join forces when the boat captain plans a treasure hunt while they are stopped in their travels. Seeta attempts unsuccessfully to determine whether Ram feels anything for her during the entire incident.

Seeta begs Ram to let Chinna win the treasure hunt as the latter is in need of money just as they are about to win it. Ram voluntarily consents, gaining her respect even more. Chinna discovers that the man wearing the red shirt is actually Ravi following the treasure quest. He tries to discipline Ravi, but in the end he lets the matter go because he followed Ravi to the cruise and won the Rs. 5,000 treasure hunt prize.

In the meantime, Raaji accidentally leads Ravi astray during the treasure quest, which infuriates him. Raaji and Ravi are on the same squad. Raaji begins to have doubts about their upcoming marriage after learning about Ravi’s chauvinistic and domineering behaviour Disappointed and bewildered, she abruptly proposes marriage to Ram.

Ram gives her a piece of paper with the information and says he will pick her up at a certain place and time. Seeta unintentionally ends up holding this document. Knowing that Seeta has feelings for Ram, Chinna swallows the paper without waiting for Seeta to read it. As a result, Raaji never receives the paper, and her rendezvous with Ram is ruined.

Raaji returns to the ship to consummate her marriage to Ravi after feeling betrayed and hurt by Ram. Feeling betrayed by Ram’s apparent continued love for Raaji, Seeta abruptly ends the boat vacation without telling anyone. Ram begins to miss Seeta and gets confused about why she went. Her journal, which was inadvertently left behind, is discovered by him.

He learns about Seeta’s emotions for him after reading it. In an effort to make amends, he travels to her Hyderabad residence. He makes a surprise proposal to her on their walk together after much persuasion. Surprised and perplexed, Seeta declares that she will never forgive him for considering marrying Raaji.

Ram informs her that the piece of paper he handed her was actually blank and that the entire plan was a deception, and that he never intended to marry Raaji. After hearing this, Seeta feels content once more and decides to wed Ram.
