Dharmendra, whose full name is Dharmendra Singh Deol, is an Indian film actor, producer, and politician. He was born on December 8, 1935, in Sahnewal, Punjab, India. Dharmendra is considered one of the greatest and most iconic actors in the history of Indian cinema.
He made his acting debut in the Hindi film industry with the film “Dil Bhi Tera Hum Bhi Tere” in 1960 but gained significant recognition with the film “Phool Aur Patthar” (1966), which was a commercial success and established him as an action star. Dharmendra’s good looks, charm, and intense performances won the hearts of millions of fans across the country.
During the 1960s and 1970s, Dharmendra starred in a string of successful films, collaborating with top actresses and filmmakers of the time. Some of his notable movies include “Sholay” (1975), where he played the character of Veeru, and “Seeta Aur Geeta” (1972), opposite Hema Malini. He also worked in several romantic and family dramas, showcasing his versatility as an actor.
Dharmendra is also known for his on-screen chemistry with actress Hema Malini. They appeared in numerous films together and eventually got married in real life.
In addition to his successful acting career, Dharmendra ventured into film production and established his production company called “Vijayta Films.” He produced several films under this banner.
Dharmendra’s popularity extended beyond the film industry, and he also entered politics. He became a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and was elected as a Member of Parliament (MP) from Bikaner in Rajasthan in 2004.
