Story:

Sacred Games is a neo-noir crime thriller TV series adapted from Vikram Chandra’s 2006 novel. As India’s first Netflix original series, it was produced and directed by Vikramaditya Motwane and Anurag Kashyap under Phantom Films. The adaptation was handled by Varun Grover, Smita Singh, and Vasant Nath, with executive producers Kelly Luegenbiehl, Erik Barmack, and Motwane. Editing was done by Aarti Bajaj, and the background score was composed by Alokananda Dasgupta.

The cast features Saif Ali Khan, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Radhika Apte, Girish Kulkarni, Neeraj Kabi, Jeetendra Joshi, Rajshri Deshpande, Karan Wahi, Sukhmani Sadana, Aamir Bashir, Jatin Sarna, Elnaaz Norouzi, Amey Wagh, Kubbra Sait, Surveen Chawla, and Ranvir Shorey.

The story follows Sartaj Singh, a troubled Mumbai police officer, who receives a call from gangster Ganesh Gaitonde, warning him to save the city within 25 days. The series then unfolds the ensuing events.

The first season, consisting of eight episodes, was released on Netflix on July 6, 2018, in 191 countries, subtitled in over 20 languages. It received widespread critical acclaim for its performances and writing and was the only Indian series to feature on The New York Times’ “The 30 Best International TV Shows of the Decade” list. The second season premiered on August 15, 2019, receiving a mixed response.
