TheatrePrakash Raj co-wrote, directed, and produced the 2012 Indian drama film Dhoni. Produced concurrently in Tamil and Telugu, it features Raj opposite Radhika Apte and Akash. The storyline highlights the competing goals of a father and son: the father wants his son to pursue an MBA, but the son is more focused on sports and aspires to be a professional cricket player like Mahendra Singh Dhoni. Dhoni, which was based on Mahesh Manjrekar’s Marathi film Shikshanachya Aaicha Gho, debuted on February 10, 2012, to favourable reviews. Subramaniam is a widower from the lower middle class with two children. He works nonstop to support his children Karthik and daughter Kaveri. He wants them to receive a top-notch education.
Karthik, 14, aspires to be a skilled cricket player. Like Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who serves as his inspiration, he aspires to be an attacking wicketkeeper-batsman.
Karthik is enrolled in a reputable school by Subramaniam, although he struggles in most subjects. Karthik’s cricket coach, on the other hand, is praised highly because Karthik was a key player in the team’s victory. Kaveri and Nalini hang out a lot. When Subramaniam finds out that Nalini is a prostitute, he gives his daughter strong instructions to avoid her. Karthik’s academic performance is so low that the principal instructs Subramaniam to remove his son out. Karthik is immediately removed from coaching cricket by Subramaniam and forced to attend a number of tuition sessions.
