Krishnamoorthy (25 September 1964 – 7 October 2019) was a renowned comedian in the Indian Tamil film industry.
Krishnamoorthy’s journey in the film world began when he relocated from Tiruvannamalai to Madras in 1983 with aspirations of becoming a film actor. Despite initial setbacks, he secured a position as an office boy on the film set of “Kuzhandhai Yesu” (1984). His dedication and contribution led him to be promoted to the role of a production manager by the end of filming. This marked the start of his involvement in various film projects and advertisements, earning him credits as Manager Krishnamoorthy initially.
His breakthrough as a comedy actor came with his role in “Thavasi” (2001), where he delivered a memorable scene asking Vadivelu’s character for directions to Osama bin Laden’s and George W. Bush’s homes, humorously attempting to broker peace between them. Krishnamoorthy continued to collaborate with Vadivelu in numerous films during the 2000s, showcasing his comedic talent.
He earned critical acclaim for his performances, notably as Murugan, a mid-level manager within a human trafficking group in Bala’s “Naan Kadavul” (2009), and as a corrupt police constable in “Mouna Guru” (2011). His role in “Yaanai Mel Kuthirai Sawaari” garnered praise, with critics noting it as one of the most substantial roles in his career.
Tragically, Krishnamoorthy passed away on October 7, 2019, due to a heart attack while shooting for the film “Pei Mama” directed by Sakthi Chidambaram in Kumily, Kerala. He left behind his wife and two children.
