A cinematographer, Sameer Reddy mostly works in the Hindi and South Indian film industries. He was raised in Rajahmundry after being born in Hyderabad. Since his family works in the leather industry, he was sent to Chennai to pursue a degree in leather technology. In Guindy, Chennai, he enrolled in the Institute. He witnessed the men and women sewing chappals as they were sitting on the floor during the workshop.
He never went back to the Institute since he was too terrified to do so. His cousin Rasool worked as a camera assistant on the movie “Shiva,” which inspired Sameer to become interested in movies. On the recommendation of director of photography S Gopal Reddy, he began his journey by joining the Prasad Labs Graphics Department.
After spending a good deal of time there, he went back to S Gopal Reddy to ask to join his group, but S Gopal was full. Then, Sameer met Teja and worked as his assistant on the Ram Gopal Varma movie “Raat,” which also served as Teja’s debut as a cinematographer. ‘Bhai’ (1997), a Hindi film, gave Sameer his first opportunity to work as a cinematographer.
He thereafter worked on Hindi films including ‘Jaanwar’ (1999), ‘Ek Rishtaa: The Bond of Love’ (2001), and a few others. With the 2001 Seenu Vytla-directed film “Anandam,” Sameer made his screen debut in Telugu. He also produced films including “Jayam,” “Nijam,” “Satyam,” and many others.
