Abhinaya is an Indian model and actress who primarily appears in Tamil and Telugu films. She has a hearing and speaking impairment. She made her acting debut in the 2009 film Naadodigal, and since then she has acted in other Tamil and Telugu films.
Director Samuthirakani discovered Abhinaya in an ad agency’s portfolio while looking for a new face for his film Nadodigal. The popularity of Naadodigal and critical acclaim for Abhinaya’s performance prompted him to cast her in the Telugu adaptation Shambo Shiva Shambo, and she was also cast in the Kannada remake Hudugaru. The next year, she received two Filmfare Awards for her performances in Naadodigal and Shambo Shiva Shambo. Easan (2010), directed by Sasikumar, featured her in a key role. A. R. Murugadoss cast her in a supporting role alongside Suriya in the film 7aam Arivu in 2011.
She had three Telugu releases in 2012. She portrayed the sister of Jr. NTR’s and Nagarjuna’s characters in Dammu and Dhamarukam, respectively, and a Muslim character in Genius. That same year, she landed her first main part in the Telugu film Chandrudu, opposite Krishnudu, but its release has been postponed. She appeared in the Telugu family drama Seethamma Vaakitlo Sirimalle Chettu (2013) as part of an ensemble cast, as well as the Tamil action masala movie Veeram (2014) and Hari’s Poojai. The Reporter, Abhinaya’s first Malayalam film, was released in 2015 after a lengthy delay. In the same year, she made her Bollywood debut in R. Balki’s Shamitabh in a small role.
