In a village, Narasimharaju is a respected do-gooder. He views the rural women as his sisters and even contributes financially to their weddings. When he finds out that his father, Irulandi, had a second wife, he is prepared to murder him. However, Narasimharaju brings his stepsister Lakshmi to live with him after the father chooses to end his own life rather than confront his son. When a local MLA visits Narasimharaju to ask for his support in the next election, he declines, and the MLA loses. However, his son, who looks up to Narasimharaju, weds Lakshmi.
In the meantime, Bhuvaneswari, the daughter of a distant relative of Narasimharaju, arrives in the village from Bangalore. At first, she misinterprets Narasimharaju based solely on his appearance, but she soon learns of his diligence and his contribution to the community’s improvement. To aid the villagers, Narasimharaju constructed a free hospital, daycare facility, college, etc. Narasimharaju rejects Bhuvaneshwari’s proposal when she expresses her attraction to him. However, Bhuvana is still certain that he will wed Narasimharaju, so he shares his flashback.
His mother had leprosy long before Narasimharaju was born, and the family was extremely impoverished. His mother was kept alone in a room since she was unable to receive hospital treatment due to her financial situation. Because of the possibility of the sickness spreading, she was not permitted to touch her son, Narasimharaju. Since he was a child, Narasimharaju has never seen his mother because she is constantly in a secluded room. When Narasimharaju was eight years old, his mother drowned herself in a river because she was too ill to express her love for him, which only made her more irate. Narasimharaju is shocked by this and resolves to avoid getting married because he does not want any women to touch his body, which even his mother, who he loves, left undisturbed.
Bhuvaneshwari is persuaded by Narasimharaju to wed someone else. Additionally, Narasimharaju learns that his stepsister Lakshmi is being tormented by her husband, and that this is all part of a plot to exact revenge on him for declining to back the local MLA in the election. Lakshmi’s husband is beaten by Narasimharaju, who also declares that he would never condone illegal activity, even if it affects his family. When the bride-groom’s family sees Narasimharaju’s dhoti in her room on the day of Bhuvaneshwari’s wedding, they mistakenly believe that she and Bhuvaneshwari are in love and call off the wedding.
The truth is revealed by Bhuvaneshwari’s friend: Narasimharaju gave her his dhoti as protection when her garments were washed away in water some time ago. Manorama, a villager herself, yells at the groom’s family for their heartless ideas and asks Narasimharaju to wed Bhuvaneshwari because it would be the appropriate thing to do. Narasimharaju marries Bhuvaneshwari and takes Manorama’s advice as his mother’s.
