Indian film director Surya Prakash (1968–May 27, 2024) directed films in Telugu and Tamil. Before directing the action movies Maayi (2000) and Diwan (2003), he made his directorial debut with Manikkam (1996).
Surya Prakash started his career as a director with Manikkam (1996), which starred Rajkiran. In 1998, he worked on the unreleased Pen Ondru Kanden, which starred Prabhu. Later, in the early 2000s, he came back to work on two action movies with Sarathkumar: Diwan (2003) and Maayi (2000). Additionally, he contributed to the Telugu film Bharata Simha Reddy (2002), which received unfavorable reviews.
After failing to secure bids to direct high-profile movies, Surya Prakash worked on the romantic movie Varusanadu, which was set in a rural, in the early 2010s. He disclosed that the movie, which starred newcomers Kumaran and Srushti Dange, was based on his cousin’s real-life romance. The movie has not yet been released in theaters. He directed the action thriller Adhibar (2015) in 2014, in which Jeevan played the lead.
