Plot
Nazi Germany launches a scheme to economically subjugate the United Kingdom during the Blitz in November 1940 by using large quantities of fake British currency produced by the regime’s concentration camp inmates. The money is to be injected into the British economy with the help of pro-Nazi agents in an attempt to cause hyperinflation. At the same time, a Luftwaffe night raid in Birmingham destroys a BSA weapons factory, killing the female employees.
Tommy Shelby, on the other hand, lives alone because he withdrew from society following the death of his older brother Arthur, who is said to have committed himself in December 1938. Tommy is working on his autobiography, but he is plagued by visions of his late daughter Ruby. Johnny Dogs, his devoted helper, is his only companion. Tommy is visited by Ada Shelby, who has taken over as Birmingham South’s MP, to tell him about the crimes carried out by the Peaky Blinders, who are now led by his son Duke Shelby. At the same time, the gang raids the demolished plant and pilfers its ammunition. Duke has secretly teamed up with Nazi spy John Beckett, who plans to use the Peaky Blinders’ networks to spread £350 million worth of counterfeit money around Britain.
The twin sister of Zelda Chiriklo, with whom Tommy had conceived Duke in 1914, Kaulo Chiriklo, approaches Tommy in the meantime. Calling Tommy the Rom Baro, or the Gypsy King, Kaulo pretends to have communicated with Arthur from the afterlife and coerces Tommy into admitting that he killed Arthur by accident because the latter had acted irrationally while under the influence of opium. Nevertheless, she sees Tommy’s gesture as a gesture of charity and persuades him to go back to Birmingham in order to save Duke, whom she believes is in danger. In another scene, Beckett learns that Ada has gathered evidence of Duke’s factory raid and plans to present it to the military police, potentially upsetting the plan.
After learning of Ada’s passing, Tommy approaches Duke and chastises him for his lack of self-control. After learning of the scheme, he decides to murder Beckett in the mortuary where Ada’s body is kept, assuming that Beckett would also be there to murder him. Tommy reveals to his deceased sister in the mortuary the real reason behind Arthur’s passing: he killed him because he was frustrated by his erratic behavior. After a gunfight, Beckett shows up and attempts to kill Tommy but manages to get away. In the meantime, Kaulo pays Duke a clandestine visit, tells him to form an alliance with his father, and gives him a bullet with Tommy’s name—an order to kill him once they have accomplished their shared objective.
Tommy, who has now regained control of the Peaky Blinders, plans to exploit the delivery of the false money to beat Beckett with the assistance of his old friends Charlie Strong, Curly, and dockyard manager Hayden Stagg, who has tracked Beckett’s car to a warehouse in the Liverpool docks. However, Duke contacts Beckett again and reassures him that the fictitious money would be sent securely, as per their earlier arrangement. Tommy plans to travel through an abandoned tunnel to personally surprise Beckett, while the Blinders will take a barge to Liverpool to confront Beckett’s Nazi troops. At midnight, both squads are expected to launch an attack.
Tommy has a secret meeting with Kaulo before departing, during which he admits he is aware of her plans but does not expressly disagree with them. Beckett, who has been personally warned by Duke of the plan, has his forces intercept the barges, not knowing that they are rigged with explosives. The mercenaries are killed in the ensuing explosion, and Duke tells an astonished Beckett that he had always decided to stand by his father before fleeing. When the Blinders show up, they eliminate Beckett’s surviving mercenaries. Tommy, who has already come, effectively destroys the plot by using a landmine to burn the fake money.
Tommy, mortally injured, urges Duke to use the bullet that Kaulo handed him to murder him. Tommy passes away while reciting the opening line of the poem In the Bleak Midwinter, having at last found serenity. Duke initially objects but later complies. The Peaky Blinders hold a Gypsy burial for their deceased leader under the leadership of Duke, who is now Rom Baro. Tommy remembers having his family by his side despite his wealth and power, and he is now reunited with them, wherever they may be, in his manuscript The Immortal Man, which Kaulo finds.
