Irish actor Cillian Murphy was born on May 25, 1976. His credits include an Academy Award, a BAFTA Award, and a Golden Globe Award. His works span both stage and television.
In the 1996 play Disco Pigs by Enda Walsh, he made his stage debut. He then played the same part in the 2001 film adaptation. The horror movie 28 Days Later (2002), the dark comedy Intermission (2003), the thriller Red Eye (2005), the Irish conflict drama The Wind That Shakes the Barley (2006), and the science fiction thriller Sunshine (2007) are among his early cinematic credits. In the comedy-drama Breakfast on Pluto (2005), he portrayed a transgender Irish lady and was nominated for his first Golden Globe.
Murphy started working with director Christopher Nolan in 2005. He appeared in Dunkirk (2017), Inception (2010), and The Dark Knight trilogy (2005–2012) as the Scarecrow. His roles as Tommy Shelby in the BBC historical drama series Peaky Blinders (2013–2022) and in the horror sequel A Quiet Place Part II (2020) brought him more notoriety. Murphy earned both the BAFTA and the Academy Award for Best Actor for his portrayal of J. Robert Oppenheimer in Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer (2023).
