TheatreIn 2009, the Indian Telugu-language action film “Jayeebhava” took center stage under the direction of Naren Kondepati, featuring Kalyan Ram and Hansika Motwani in prominent roles, while S. S. Thaman took charge of the music composition. Unfortunately, the film failed to make a mark at the box office and, later, found itself dubbed into Hindi as “Badmash No. 1.”
The narrative unfolds in a town where Bhavani Shankar (Mukesh Rushi) and Narasimha (Jaya Prakash Reddy) emerge as two rival leaders. Ram (played by Kalyanram Nandamuri), Bhavani Shankar’s son, falls in love with Anjali (Hansika Motwani) while abroad. Upon returning to their hometown, they discover their allegiance to opposing factions. The plot delves into the strategic game played by Ram and Anjali to reconcile their feuding fathers.
Kalyan Ram Nandamuri delivers a commendable performance as Ram, showcasing improvement in dialogue delivery and a convincing portrayal of his character. Hansika Motwani adds a touch of glamour without compromising on her elegance. The supporting cast, including Asish Vidyardhi, Jaya Prakash Reddy, Mukesh Rushi, Chalapati Rao, Raghubabu, and Ali, contribute adequately to the film. Brahmanandam makes a cameo appearance towards the conclusion.
While the movie boasts an acceptable storyline, the screenplay falls short of perfection. The director, Naren Kondepati, manages to redeem the film’s direction in the second half, characterized by improved family dynamics and comedy. However, the initial half struggles to clearly articulate the narrative. The hero’s characterization stands out, but the portrayal of Jaya Prakash Reddy and Mukesh Rushi lacks logical consistency, challenging the audience’s suspension of disbelief in the second half.
S. S. Thaman’s music is passable, with well-picturized songs, particularly one featuring graphics. The dialogues penned by BVS Ravi are satisfactory, and the art direction earns praise. Dasaradhi Sivendra’s cinematography is precise, capturing the essence of the scenes. However, the editing could have been tighter, addressing the film’s pacing issues and prolonged runtime. NTR Arts contributes commendable production values to the project.
The first half of the film falters with incoherence and lack of engagement. However, the narrative gains momentum in the second half, notably when the hero and heroine exchange homes. The movie culminates with a strong comedic and entertaining finish in the last half-hour. Kalyan Ram, Hansika, and the concluding segment emerge as the film’s strengths. On the downside, a more refined screenplay and a clearer first half could have significantly enhanced the film’s appeal. The film’s fate at the box office remains uncertain, awaiting audience response.
