Biography:

Former Indian actress Kanaka Vijayalakshmi, often known by her stage name Madhavi, is well-known for her roles in Telugu, Hindi, Tamil, Malayalam, and Kannada movies. She has appeared in over 300 movies over the course of a nearly two-decade career and was recognized as one of the top actresses in South Indian cinema in the 1980s.

Madhavi was born to Sasirekha and Govindaswamy in Eluru, India. She grew up with a brother and sister named Dhananjay and Keerthi Kumari, respectively. She received early training in folk dance from Bhatt and Bharat Natyam from Uma Maheswari, and she performed more than a thousand times. She studied in Hyderabad’s Abids Branch of Stanley Girls High School.

When she was a teenager, director Dasari Narayana Rao handed her a lead role in the Telugu movie Thoorupu Padamara. The movie became a big success. She appeared in several movies alongside Telugu actor Chiranjeevi. Intlo Ramayya Veedhilo Krishnayya, her debut film with Chiranjeevi, came out in 1982. She appeared in the critically acclaimed film Khaidi once more alongside Chiranjeevi. Big Boss, another Chiranjeevi film, was her final Telugu feature. She was then given a supporting part in K. Balachander’s 1978 Telugu movie Maro Charitra. She played the same part in the 1981 Hindi adaptation Ek Duuje Ke Liye, which went on to earn the most money that year.

She had numerous Malayalam film appearances, particularly in movies with Mohanlal and Mammootty. In the National Award-winning film Oru Vadakkan Veeragadha, she played Unniyarcha. Her portrayal of a mother who passes away from leukemia in Akashadoothu earned her the 1993 Filmfare Award for Best Actress as well as the Kerala State Film Award for Second Best Actress. Ormakkayi, Changatham, Novemberinte Nashtam, and Nombarathi Poovu are other movies.

Her Hindu spiritual guide Swami Rama set up her marriage to Ralph Sharma, a pharmaceutical industry executive, in 1996. At the Himalayan Institute of Yoga Science and Philosophy, Ralph and Madhavi first encountered Swami Rama when they were both 32 years old. They got hitched on February 14th, 1996. They reside in New Jersey and have three daughters.
