TheatreStory:
Arun Gopy is the director, Udaykrishna is the writer, and Vinayaka Ajith is the producer of the 2023 Indian Malayalam-language masala film Bandra. In addition to Dino Morea, Mamta Mohandas, Kalabhavan Shajohn, R. Sarathkumar, Lena, Easwari Rao, K. B. Ganesh Kumar, Siddique, and VTV Ganesh, the movie stars Dileep and Tamannaah Bhatia (making her Malayalam cinema debut). Sam C. S. wrote the original score for the movie, and Shaji Kumar and Vivek Harshan handled the editing and cinematography, respectively. Sakshi, a young director, is shown in the movie looking for a compelling narrative for her debut. She develops an interest in an ancient Bandra flat where Tara Janaki, a well-known Hibdi film actress from the 1990s, is rumored to have killed herself at the height of her success. Sakshi meets Mirchi, an enigmatic elderly man who appears to have ties to Tara’s past, while doing her investigation. As a result of her investigation, the movie travels back in time to tell the true tale of Tara’s life and demise.
On November 10, 2023, during the Diwali holiday, Bandra was released in theaters. The movie did poorly at the box office and got bad reviews from reviewers.
Plot
Sakshi, a young filmmaker, travels across Mumbai in search of inspiration for her first movie. Her car is suddenly hit by an elderly man’s scooter while she is driving through the busy streets of the city. Later, when she is enjoying coffee at a charming café, her eyes stray to the building across from the notorious Tulsi Apartment, where Tara Janaki, the top Bollywood star of the 1990s, is said to have plunged to her death in 1993 at the height of her popularity. Sakshi makes the decision to document Tara’s life and the mystery surrounding her untimely death in a movie. As she goes into research, she stumbles onto a collection of images from Tara’s final film, Rani Padmavati. She is shocked to see the elderly man, Mirchi, standing in the background in one of the pictures.
Sakshi is desperate to find him after realizing that he might have long-kept secrets concerning Tara’s personal life. As the plot progresses, at the beginning of a shoot in Kerala, the actress has taken sanctuary in the home of the extremely wealthy Aala or Alexander Dominic. He was already besotted by her after a short sight of her beauty on the big screen, when he had gone to the theatre to catch a goon.
Thara informs Aala that she wants to get away from Ragavendra Desai, the owner of the RD company that produces her movies, and her domineering adoptive mother, Hema Janaki. She is enjoying a laid-back moment with the love of Aala’s entourage, which includes his mother, while the Kerala police search for the actress who went missing from the sets. However, the game quickly ends, and she is returned to Mumbai by her mother and the don producer. Aala, who has now accompanied Thara to Mumbai, proposes that she produce her next film, the woman-centric tale of Rani Padmini, when Thara completes the final movie under her contract with Ragavendra Desai and he denies her opportunities for new projects.
Anyway, in order to finance the project, Aala, who has a vaguely-referred-to dubious past, performs crimes in the contract of a former anti-terrorist squad officer IG Veera Raghavan IPS, who wished to avenge the killing of his family. Resolving Ragavendra Desai’s issue is another aspect of Aala’s contract. Sakshi eventually finds out from Mirchi, Aala’s companion, that Thara was murdered by Ragavendra Desai rather than committing suicide. Aala becomes furious and ruthlessly murders Ragavendra Desai in order to exact revenge for the death of Thara Janaki.
