American actor Fred Hechinger was born on December 2, 1999. He started out in supporting parts in movies including the psychological thriller The Woman in the Window (2021), the period drama News of the World (2020), and the coming-of-age feature Eighth Grade (2018). He also starred in the first season of the HBO anthology series The White Lotus and the Netflix horror thriller The Fear Street Trilogy in 2021.
Seth Warshavsky was played by Hechinger in the 2022 miniseries Pam & Tommy. He played Caracalla in the historical action movie Gladiator II and starred in the comedies Thelma and Nickel Boys in 2024.
Parents Paul Hechinger and Sarah Rozen welcomed Hechinger into the world in New York City. Fred M. Hechinger, the education editor of The New York Times, was his grandpa. Actors Lucas Hedges and Maya Hawke were among his classmates at Saint Ann’s School, where he was raised on the Upper West Side. Hechinger attended Upright Citizens Brigade and worked as a teenage reporter. He’s Jewish.
Hechinger debuted as an actor in the 2018 coming-of-age dramedy Eighth Grade, playing Trevor. He costarred in Marc Meyers’ drama film Human Capital the following year, which was adapted from Stephen Amidon’s 2004 book of the same name. Following its Toronto International Film Festival premiere, it was made available on DirecTV Cinema on March 20, 2020.
