Balakrishna Pillai Keezhoote Malayali Indian actor and politician Ganesh Kumar has been representing the Pathanapuram constituency in the Kollam district of Kerala as a member of the Legislative Assembly since 2001. From May 2001 to March 2003, he served as Minister of Transportation. He is the son of former Keralan Minister R. Balakrishna Pillai.
Political career
Ganesh Kumar, a graduate of the Government Arts College in Trivandrum with a degree in commerce, was first elected to the Kerala Legislative Assembly in 2001 from Pathanapuram after defeating Communist Party of India candidate Prakash Babu. He was then re-elected in the 2006 general election. He is the lone current MLA from the Kollam district for the United Democratic Front, which is led by the Congress. In the A. K. Antony ministry, he served as the Minister of Transport. He gave up his ministerial position in 2003 to allow his father to be appointed to the Cabinet.
Film career
In the 1985 Malayalam film Erakal, directed by K. G. George, he made his screen debut. It was ranked as the year’s second-best movie. He has almost 25 years of experience playing a range of roles. He has performed in 39 television series and more than 125 movies. He received the 2007 Kerala State Award for Best Television Actor in recognition of his work in the Surya TV series Madhavam. successfully combines career in film with political work.
