Gopalakrishnan Padmanabhan

Biography:

Gopalakrishnan Padmanabhan, better known by his stage name Dileep, is an Indian actor, producer, and businessman who primarily works in Malayalam cinema. He has appeared in more than 150 films and received numerous honours, including a Filmfare Awards South and four Kerala State Film Awards.

On October 27, 1967, Padmanabhan Pillai and Sarojam welcomed Dileep into the world as Gopalakrishnan Padmanabhan in Edavanakad, Kerala’s Ernakulam district. Out of three children, he is the oldest.

In 1985, Dileep completed the tenth grade at Vidyadhiraja Vidya Bhavan School in Aluva. After that, he enrolled in Union Christian College in Aluva to finish his pre-degree between 1985 and 1987. He later attended Maharaja’s College in Ernakulam to obtain a degree in history. He started to take impressionist performances seriously while attending Maharaja’s College.

Dileep started out as a stage mimic and first became well-known thanks to the comedic audio series Dhe Maveli Kombathu and the Asianet television shows Comicola and Cinemala. Beginning with Vishnulokam (1991), he worked as Kamal’s assistant director before making his acting debut in a small part in Kamal’s Ennodishtam Koodamo (1992). His breakout appearances in Sallapam and Ee Puzhayum Kadannu in 1996 solidified his reputation as a bankable actor. His first major part was in Manathe Kottaram (1994). His slapstick comedies, including Punjabi House (1998), Thenkasipattanam (2000), Darling Darling (2000), Ee Parakkum Thalika (2001), and Ishtam (2001), gained him widespread recognition by the late 1990s and early 2000s.
