Story:

Annapoorani: The Goddess of Food, a Tamil-language drama film released in 2023, marks Nilesh Krishnaa’s directorial debut and is co-produced by Jatin Sethi and R. Ravindran under Zee Studios, Naad Sstudios, and Trident Arts. Starring Nayanthara as the protagonist, alongside Jai and Sathyaraj, the story revolves around Annapoorani, an aspiring chef facing challenges in pursuit of her culinary dreams.

Initially announced in July 2022 with the working title Nayanthara 75, symbolizing Nayanthara’s 75th lead role, the film was officially titled in October 2023. Filming commenced in April 2023, spanning locations in Chennai and Tiruchirappalli, concluding by mid-September 2023. The movie features music by Thaman S, cinematography by Sathyan Sooryan, and editing by Praveen Anthony.

Released on December 1, 2023, Annapoorani received mixed critical reviews. The narrative follows Annapoorani, aspiring to become a corporate chef, despite her Brahmin family’s tradition of serving vegetarian food at the Srirangam temple. Her father opposes her culinary aspirations due to their vegetarian lifestyle, leading Annapoorani to secretly enroll in a hotel management course.

Discovered by her father eating chicken, she is pressured into an unwanted marriage but escapes to Chennai with her friend Farhaan. Joining the hotel where her idol works, Annapoorani strives to excel, impressing the French president and earning a promotion.

Chef Ashwin, son of her idol Chef Anand, becomes jealous and sabotages her, causing her to lose her sense of taste. Undeterred, Annapoorani perseveres, overcoming aguesia through rigorous training and emerges as India’s top chef, triumphing despite her taste bud challenges.
