TheatreKrishna Vamsi wrote and directed the supernatural family drama movie Murari, which was released in 2001. Along with Sonali Bendre, Lakshmi, Sukumari, Kaikala Satyanarayana, and Gollapudi Maruthi Rao, Mahesh Babu plays the title role in the movie. This is Bendre’s Telugu cinema debut. The soundtrack was written by Mani Sharma, and Ram Prasad was in charge of the filming. With this movie, Peter Hein made his acting choreography debut. Dhulipala Seetarama Sastry, a prominent Telugu actor, made his final appearance in the movie.
The film centers on the cheerful Murari, whose Zamindar forefathers have suffered from Goddess Durga’s generational curse since the middle of the 19th century. This curse causes the family’s successors to pass away in their early 30s once every 48 years. No matter how many religious rites are carried out since ancient times, the family never reappears with heirs. Murari is the only member of this generation to fall victim to the curse. The movie is about Murari’s spiritual will and his grandmother’s selflessness helping him to break the curse.
The movie, which debuted on February 17, 2001, received favorable reviews, did well financially, and was dubbed a “Super Hit” at the box office. 2015 saw the Hindi dub of Murari titled Devta Ka Prit. Three Nandi Awards were given to it, second best feature film among them. The movie was recreated as Gopi (2006) in Kannada.
