In order to work in the film industry, Sobhan moved to Chennai in 1989. His first project was a movie called Rowdyism, which was shelved after ten days of filming. He then collaborated on Raithu Bharatham with Tripuraneni Varaprasad, well known as Chitti Babu, and Anaganaga Oka Roju with Ram Gopal Varma. Later, he began writing for Krishna Vamsi’s movie Sindhooram, collaborated with him on the movie Murari, and also appeared in movies like Kshana Kshanam and Oka Raju Oka Rani as an actor. He then directed a few episodes of the 2000 Malayalam television series Navaneetha. He kept in touch with Mahesh Babu while making Murari, which resulted in the movie Bobby.
Sobhan was renowned for his skill with words on paper. He assisted a lot of directors during the writing sessions for a lot of blockbuster movies.
At the age of 40, Sobhan passed away from a cardiac attack on January 6, 2008. He was mid-story when he complained of chest pain and passed out. He was talking to Bhumika Chawla at the time. She hurried him to Image Hospitals in Madhapur with her husband Bharath Thakur. He was brought in dead, the medics pronounced.His wife Soujanya, along with his two kids, including actor Santosh Shoban, are left behind.The same year, his elder brother, the comic Lakshmipati, passed away.
