Sona Mohapatra, born on June 17, 1976, is an Indian singer, composer, and lyricist. Before her music journey, she completed her engineering from the College of Engineering and Technology, Bhubaneswar, and later pursued an MBA from Symbiosis Centre for Management & HRD, Pune. She even worked as a brand manager in Marico, handling popular brands like Parachute and Mediker.
She started her music career in advertising, creating famous jingles like “Kal Ka Bharat Hai” for Tata Salt and “Paas Aao Na” for Unilever’s Close Up. In 2007, she released her first album, “Sona,” exploring various music styles from rock to Indian classical. Over the years, she’s sung for movies like “Delhi Belly” and contributed to TV show theme songs like “Satyamev Jayate.”
Known for her powerful performances, Sona has her band, performing live at prestigious venues worldwide, from the Lincoln Center in New York to various Indian cities. She’s also been part of the international Jodhpur RIFF festival at the Mehrangarh Fort. Her song “Bolo Na” received great appreciation from her audience.
