Thotakura Somaraju

Thotakura Somaraju, whose life spanned approximately from 1954 to May 21, 2023, was one half of the illustrious Indian film music composing duo, Raj-Koti, alongside Saluri Koteswara Rao. Somaraju, affectionately referred to as Raj, left an indelible mark on the landscape of Telugu cinema as a composer, singer-songwriter, record producer, musician, and multi-instrumentalist.

Throughout his career, Somaraju showcased a remarkable talent for crafting melodies that resonated deeply with audiences, redefining contemporary Telugu film music in the process. His collaboration with Rao as Raj-Koti yielded a prolific output, with the duo composing music for a multitude of films, numbering approximately 180 in total.
