Lathika is an Indian playback singer known for her significant contributions to Malayalam and Tamil film industries during the late 1980s and early 1990s. She rendered her melodious voice to over 300 films, delivering several hit songs that resonated with audiences. Some of her notable tracks from that era include “Kathodu Kathoram,” “Devadoothar Padi,” “Poo Venam Pooppada Venam,” and “Tharum Thalirum.”
Her journey in playback singing began at the age of 16 with the song “Pushpathalpathin” for the movie “Abhinandam” in 1976, composed by Kannur Rajan. Lathika had the privilege of working with renowned composers such as Ravindran Master, Ouseppachan, and S.P. Venkatesh, contributing to the debut films of these maestros.
Her association with music director Raveendran paved her way to director Bharathan, leading to impactful collaborations in numerous films. Notably, Bharathan entrusted her with songs like “Varnangal Gandhangal” in “Chamaram” (1980) and “Pon Pularoli” in “Ithiri Poove Chuvanna Poove” (1984), marking the beginning of their fruitful musical association across several movies.
