Radhika Sarathkumar

Radhika Sarathkumar, a multifaceted Indian personality, is renowned as an actress, director, producer, and politician, primarily active in Tamil and Telugu cinema, TV serials, web series, and a range of Indian films in Hindi, Malayalam, and Kannada. Born to the late actor M. R. Radha and Sri Lankan Tamil Geetha, Radhika’s diverse educational journey took her through India, Sri Lanka, and the United Kingdom. She shares her lineage with a younger sister, actress Nirosha, and two younger brothers, Raju and Mohan, along with an older half-brother, Radha Ravi.

In 2001, Radhika tied the knot with actor Sarathkumar, whom she had previously been paired with in films like “Namma Annachi” (1994) and “Suryavamsam” (1997). Their enduring friendship blossomed into a marriage that resulted in the birth of their son, Rahhul, in 2004. Radhika’s daughter, Rayane Hardy, married cricketer Abhimanyu Mithun in 2016, making Radhika a grandmother in 2018 when Rayane welcomed a son.

Radhika’s cinematic journey began in 1978 with the Tamil film “Kizhakke Pogum Rail.” Over the years, she has left an indelible mark in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Hindi, and Malayalam films. Not only an accomplished actress, but Radhika has also ventured into film production. Her film, “Meendum Oru Kaathal Kathai” (1985), won the Indira Gandhi Award for Best Debut Film of a Director.

Transitioning to the small screen, Radhika founded Radaan Mediaworks in 1994, initially facing skepticism but eventually emerging as a publicly listed company, Radaan Mediaworks (I) Ltd in 1999. She has produced and acted in successful TV serials like “Chitti,” “Annamalai,” “Selvi,” “Arasi,” “Chellamay,” “Vani Rani,” “Thamarai,” and “Chithi 2.”

Her accolades include 1 National Film Award as a producer, 6 Filmfare Awards South, 3 Tamil Nadu State Film Awards, 1 Cinema Express Award, and 1 Nandi Award. Radhika’s contributions extend beyond entertainment; she ventured into politics, joining AIADMK before the 2006 Assembly elections alongside her husband. However, in 2006, she was dismissed from AIADMK for alleged anti-party activities. Subsequently, she became the vice president of All India Samathuva Makkal Katchi from 2007.
