Ilango and Sriram are close friends. Ilango is the only son in his family, and his parents are only concerned about his studies. However, Ilango is more interested in starting a business. He falls in love with Manohari, who happens to live opposite their house, along with her outspoken sub-inspector mother.
Sriram, feeling responsible for his sisters’ marriages, goes to Libya for a job arranged by Ilango’s parents. Before leaving, he confides in Ilango, revealing that he and Manohari are in love. Sriram asks Ilango to take care of Manohari in his absence. Ilango keeps his own feelings for Manohari a secret to honor their friendship.
Meanwhile, Manohari’s mother plans for her to marry Vijay Adhiraj for his wealth. In response, Manohari and Ilango lie, claiming they are already married. They decide to leave their parents, and Ilango starts working to support Manohari financially.
When Sriram returns after completing his job, he faces another family responsibility that prevents him from marrying Manohari. He apologizes, explaining that he is compelled to marry someone else for his sister’s sake. Later, Manohari moves to Mumbai for a job opportunity.
Ilango’s parents eventually discover that he and Manohari are not married but choose to accept them. Radhika, who knows Manohari as the girl Ilango loved, is aware of the situation, but Ilango hesitates to acknowledge it, fearing Manohari’s judgment. However, things take a turn at the train station, and Manohari learns about Ilango’s true feelings. She accepts him, bringing a happy resolution to their love story.
