Indian actor, director, producer, and writer Charan Raj has produced films in Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Odia, and Hindi.
In the South Indian cinema industry, Charan Raj is a versatile performer who is well-known for playing villains and supporting characters. With the commercially successful Kannada film Parajitha (1982), directed by Siddalingaiah, Charanraj launched his film career. In addition to being an actor, Charan Raj also works as a producer, composer, and director. He began his career in Telugu with Pratighatana (1985), Indrudu Chandrudu (1989) with Kamal Haasan, and Karthavyam (1990) with Vijayashanti. He is well known for his villainous performances in the Telugu cinema industry. He has also appeared with Rajinikanth in the Tamil films Veera (1994) and Baashha (1995), as well as the Hindi films Panakkaran (1990), Dharma Dorai (1991), and Phool Bane Angaray (1991).
He appeared as a different Charan Raj in the 1993 Tamil film Gentleman, and his performance there earned him positive reviews. In 1999, he made his directorial debut with the movie Annan Thangachi. He both directed and played the hero in this movie. Despite having a strong story, the movie did not do well at the box office. In the 2007 film Vel, starring Saranya Ponvannan, he also played Suriya’s father.
