Ashwini Kalsekar is a highly accomplished Indian actress renowned for her work in both Marathi and Hindi television and film industries. She has notably collaborated with acclaimed Hindi film directors such as Sriram Raghavan, Rohit Shetty, and Ram Gopal Varma.
Her significant role as a police officer in the popular TV series “CID” garnered her recognition. Ashwini’s breakthrough on television came in 1999 when she took on the lead role in the well-received science fiction comedy series “Mr. Gayab” on Zee TV. One of her most memorable roles was as the villainous Shalaka Catwoman in the children’s superhero series “Shaktimaan,” where she became the first Indian Catwoman.
Ashwini Kalsekar is also known for her compelling negative characters, including Jigyasa Walia in Ekta Kapoor’s soap opera “Kasamh Se,” Sikka Thakuriaan in “Afsar Bitiya,” Maham Anga in “Jodha Akbar,” and the malevolent witch Saudamini in “Kavach.” Additionally, she served as a judge on the Marathi reality show “Fu bai fu” in 2011.
Her entry into the Telugu film industry, or Tollywood, occurred with the movie “Badrinath,” following in the footsteps of her husband, Murali Sharma. In her early life, Ashwini Kalsekar was born into a Marathi family in Mumbai, Maharashtra. Her father, Anil Kalsekar, worked as a bank employee. She completed her B.A. degree in Mumbai in 1991 and subsequently pursued her passion for acting. Her journey included training in theatre from 1991 to 1994, studying under actress Neena Gupta in 1992-1993, and receiving guidance from theatre acting coach Muzammeel Vakil from 1992 to 1995. Ashwini is also a skilled Kathak dancer.
