Anuradha Sriram, born on July 9, 1970, in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India, is a celebrated Indian Carnatic and playback singer, as well as a former child actress, with a prolific career spanning multiple languages in the Indian film industry.
Her musical journey began in her childhood, growing up in a family entrenched in music. Born to playback singer Renuka Devi and Meenakshi Sundaram Mohan, Anuradha displayed an early inclination and talent for music. She received her initial education at St. Francis Anglo-Indian Girls School in Coimbatore and later at Padma Seshadri Bala Bhavan in Chennai. She pursued her higher education, earning B.A and M.A degrees in music from Queen Mary’s College in Madras University, where she also secured gold medals in both courses. Furthering her studies, she received a fellowship to pursue a Master of Arts degree in Ethnomusicology and Composition from Wesleyan University in Connecticut, USA.
Anuradha Sriram’s musical training spanned across diverse disciplines. She received guidance from eminent gurus in Carnatic music such as Thanjavur S. Kalyanaraman, Sangeetha Kalanidhi T. Brinda, and T. Viswanathan. Her pursuits also led her to intensive training in Hindustani classical music under Pandit Mannikbua Thakurdas. Additionally, she honed her skills in Western Classical opera, undergoing rigorous training from Prof. Shirley Meier in New York City.
