Story:

Scam 1992 – The Harshad Mehta Story is a Hindi-language financial thriller series available on SonyLIV, directed by Hansal Mehta with Jai Mehta as co-director. Inspired by the 1992 Indian stock market scandal involving figures like Harshad Mehta, the series is adapted from Sucheta Dalal and Debashish Basu’s book “The Scam: Who Won, Who Lost, Who Got Away” published in 1992.

The screenplay and dialogues were crafted by Sumit Purohit, Saurabh Dey, Vaibhav Vishal, and Karan Vyas. Cinematography was overseen by Pratham Mehta, with editing by Sumit Purohit and Kunal Walve, and background score by Achint Thakkar.

Pratik Gandhi stars as the central character Harshad Mehta, alongside Shreya Dhanwanthary who plays journalist Sucheta Dalal. The ensemble cast also includes Satish Kaushik, Anant Mahadevan, Rajat Kapoor, K. K. Raina, Lalit Parimoo, Hemant Kher, and Nikhil Dwivedi in pivotal roles. The series chronicles Harshad Mehta’s rise and eventual downfall.

Scam 1992 premiered on SonyLIV on October 9, 2020, receiving critical acclaim for its performances, writing, and technical aspects. It became the most-watched web series on the platform. At the 2021 Filmfare OTT Awards, “Scam 1992 – The Harshad Mehta Story” earned 14 nominations and won 11 awards, including Best Drama Series, Best Director in a Drama Series (Hansal and Jai), and Best Actor in a Drama Series (Gandhi).

In March 2021, SonyLiv and Applause Entertainment announced a sequel titled “Scam 2003,” focusing on the 2003 Stamp Paper Scam, to be developed by Hansal Mehta.
