Prime VideoStory:
Graham Wagner and Geneva Robertson-Dworet produced the American post-apocalyptic drama television series Fallout for Amazon Prime Video. The series is set two centuries after the Great War of 2077, when society has crumbled due to a nuclear holocaust. It is based on the role-playing video game franchise developed by Tim Cain and Leonard Boyarsky. Ella Purnell, Aaron Moten, Kyle MacLachlan, Moisés Arias, Xelia Mendes-Jones, Walton Goggins, and Frances Turner are among its stars.
In 2020, Amazon acquired the rights to create a live-action series, which was revealed in July of the same year. Bethesda Game Studios and Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy’s Kilter Films were involved in the development. The first three episodes were directed by Christopher Nolan. Alongside Nolan and Joy, Todd Howard, a producer at Bethesda Game Studios who directed several of the series’ titles, agreed to executive produce. Goggins and Purnell were cast in February and March, respectively, after Robertson-Dworet and Wagner were appointed showrunners in January 2022.
On April 10, 2024, Fallout debuted on Prime Video. Reviews were largely favorable, praising the writing, visuals, production design, adherence to the original work, and performances (especially those of Purnell, Moten, and Goggins). The show received a second season renewal that same month, and it debuted on December 16, 2025. The show was renewed for a third season in May 2025, ahead of the second-season launch. In addition to two Creative Arts Emmy Awards out of 14 nominations, Fallout has been nominated for three Emmy Awards, including Outstanding Drama Series and Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series for Goggins.
The Great War of 2077, a catastrophic nuclear exchange between the US and China, is depicted in the series. In an alternate Earth history depicted in the series, nuclear technological advancements following World War II gave rise to a retrofuturistic society and a subsequent resource war.
Many survivors sought safety in fallout bunkers known as “Vaults,” most of them ignorant that each Vault was built to conduct psychological and sociological tests on its occupants on behalf of Vault-Tec and many other American corporations, who secretly carried out the apocalypse by detonating the first salvo of nuclear bombs.
In 2296, more than 200 years later, a young woman named Lucy leaves her home in Vault 33 to search for her father, who has been abducted by wasteland raiders, in the perilous wasteland of a devastated Los Angeles. Along the way, she encounters Cooper Howard, a fabled ghoul bounty hunter, and Maximus, a Brotherhood of Steel squire, both of whom have their own pasts and ambitions to resolve. While Maximus gets ready for battle, Lucy travels with Cooper to New Vegas in the second season to learn the truth about her father and Vault-Tec.
