English actress Ella Summer Reed Purnell was born on September 17, 1996. She started out as a young actor in West End productions and movies like Maleficent (2014), Intruders (2011), and Never Let Me Go (2010). Churchill (2017), Army of the Dead (2021), and Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children (2016) are some of her previous films.
Purnell has acted in television shows such Sweetpea (2024–present), Fallout (2024–present), Yellowjackets (2021–present), Belgravia (2020), and Ordeal by Innocence (2018). Additionally, she provided the voice of Gwyndala in Star Trek: Prodigy (2021–2024) and Jinx in Arcane (2021–2024).
Purnell planned to stop her acting career at the age of 18 in order to secure a spot in college and pursue a career as a teacher or children’s author. She made the decision to travel the world for a year in order to “discover herself,” but she eventually went back to acting when she was given a part in Tim Burton’s Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children (2016). She accepted the role since it had always been her goal to collaborate with Burton. Although she was happy that she chose acting, she said that her decision to postpone attending college was “bittersweet at first because it felt like a lost opportunity of a different path in life.”
