Story:

“Vishwaroopam II” is a 2018 Indian action spy film directed and written by Kamal Haasan, with co-writers Chakri Toleti and Atul Tiwari. The movie serves as a sequel to “Vishwaroopam” (2013) and stars Kamal Haasan, Rahul Bose, Pooja Kumar, Andrea Jeremiah, and Shekhar Kapur in prominent roles. The film, set in India, was simultaneously shot in Tamil and Hindi.

The plot revolves around RAW Agent Major Wisam Ahmad Kashmiri (Kamal Haasan), tasked with eliminating Al-Qaeda member Omar Qureshi (Rahul Bose) and his fellow terrorists planning an attack on New York City. The narrative weaves past and present, exploring Wisam’s backstory, his relationships, and his mission to thwart a terrorist plot involving cesium weapons and a potential tsunami in London.

The film’s ensemble cast includes Pooja Kumar as Dr. Nirupama Vishwanathan, Andrea Jeremiah as Ashmita Subramaniam, and Shekhar Kapur as Colonel Jagannathan. The antagonist, Omar Qureshi, is portrayed by Rahul Bose. Notably, Waheeda Rehman plays the role of Wisam’s mother.

Filming commenced in Thailand, with underwater action sequences shot in Bangkok. Ghibran composed the music, replacing Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy from the first part. The film’s soundtrack includes tracks like “Naanagiya Nadhimoolame” and “Gnyabagam Varugiradha.”

“Vishwaroopam II” faced delays in production, with Haasan taking over as the producer due to financial issues. The movie finally hit theaters on August 10, 2018, with a runtime of 150 minutes. It grossed approximately ₹50 crore at the box office.

Critical reception was mixed, with praise for Kamal Haasan’s performance and action sequences, but criticism for the film’s screenplay and pacing issues. The sequel was deemed a solid delivery of Kamal-isms, but some found it lacking compared to the first installment. Despite mixed reviews, the film achieved commercial success, becoming one of the highest-grossing Tamil films of 2018.
