Biography:

Pooja Kumar, a talented American actress with Indian roots, has become well-known for her roles in movies from India in languages like Tamil, Hindi, and English. Born in St. Louis, Missouri, in 1970 to Indian parents who moved to the U.S. in 1970, Pooja studied at Washington University, where she earned degrees in political science and finance. Apart from academics, she also trained in classical Indian dance and won the Miss India USA title in 1995.

Her journey into acting and production had a slow start in the Tamil film industry, facing delays and unnoticed roles in films like “Kadhal Rojave” and “V. I. P.” However, she gained recognition for her role in the 2003 Tamil film “Flavors,” earning her the Screen Actors Guild Emerging Actress Award.

Pooja Kumar has showcased her talent in various American films and shows, including “Man on a Ledge,” “Brawl in Cell Block 99,” “Bollywood Hero,” and “Hiding Divya.” She ventured into Indian cinema with notable films like “Vishwaroopam,” “Vishwaroopam 2,” and “Uttama Villain,” working alongside Kamal Haasan. Her Telugu debut was in “PSV Garuda Vega” with Rajasekhar.

In 2008, Pooja expanded her horizons by hosting a late-night live quiz show, “Jaago Aur Jeeto,” on Zee TV in India. She also starred in the musical comedy miniseries “Bollywood Hero” in 2008, alongside Chris Kattan. Taking a break, she returned to the screen with the film “Viswaroopam.”

In her personal life, Pooja Kumar is happily married to Vishal Joshi, and they welcomed a daughter in 2020. Her journey from winning beauty pageants to showcasing her acting skills in a variety of films and TV shows has made her a notable figure in both American and Indian cinema.
